The Boxfields Bungalows

“For ‘a brief moment in time’ the Boxfields Bungalows were home to over 1,000 people thrust together in the years following WW2. Those prefabs may have been cold and damp but they housed a caring, resourceful and bustling community served by shops, a school and community centre, in fact it was almost like a small village. Today the fields alongside Boxfields Road are empty and give no clue to the people who lived there or the events that occurred over a 25 year period. Very little remains of that settlement other than the memories in the minds of those people.”
